A 5.4-magnitude earthquake with an epicenter located 7 miles east of West Salem, Illinois.
It sounded like something was happening to my roof (as if a strong wind was trying to lift it). It was enough to get me out of bed to see if something was going on outside.

It woke me up too. It felt like a strong jolt, similar to a sonic boom, that hit the apartment building, followed by a gentle but nervous sort of rattling. The shaking was more rapid than I would have expected (this was the first earthquake I've ever knowingly experienced).
ReplyDeleteDid you feel the aftershock in the late morning? It was weaker, a gentle shaking that felt slower than the first quake. This had an epicenter close to the first quake, with a magnitude of 4.5 (the first quake was 5.2).
No, I don't remember feeling the aftershock.
ReplyDeleteThis morning, after the sense of wind lifting the roof, it sounded like someone was throwing something on the roof or at the house. So, I got up at that point and looked around for a cause!
