our trip to NC

Just got back on Saturday night and had a great time! We spent the first 2.5 days driving and then spending time with friends in Farmville, VA and Elizabeth City, NC. After that, it was the vacation/tourist things:

We had already seen Kitty Hawk/Kill Devil Hills on a previous visit to our friends in EC. This time we added a bunch of stuff over six days.

The trip was bookended by time on the water. We enjoyed the Outer Bank, especially the ferries, including three dolphins and feeding a bunch of hungry seagulls. Good seafood in Beaufort and Atlantic Beach was really nice/quiet. We finished with white-water rafting in Dillsboro.

In between, we hit a good (free) kids museum in Kinston, Vollis Simpson's phenomenal "whirligigs" in Moores Crossroads, a really nice art museum in Raleigh, two nice arboretums (we preferred NCSU's organization and variety to the more nature-like Asheville), the awesome waterfall at Stone Mtn Park, and the wonderfully eclectic Korner's Folly in Kernersville.

Had a good time and created a lot of memories!
