I have to believe this to be true, because if I don't, there is nothing else to believe in.

Hopefully, infanticide, genocide, and government sponsored eugenics is not the final creative decision concerning the current global population problem. One would hope that peaceful technological advancements will replace the old ideas of breeding being the key to evolution.truepatriothttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06594009086341793988noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8241505550351823820.post-43092820185983855912007-12-25T01:20:00.000-05:002007-12-25T01:20:00.000-05:00Consider this: The world population in 1 AD was ab...Consider this: The world population in 1 AD was about 200 million. By 1000 AD it had grown by less than forty percent to 275 million. In 1750 the population had grown another 154 percent to 700 million. That’s when it happened.

The world’s inhabitants began to multiply exponentially. By 1900 there were 1.6 billion people and that grew to 6.1 billion in the year 2000. Of those, 800 million were added to our planet between 1990 and 2000. The ten-year growth alone was more than the entire world population of 1750.

I find it significant that the beginning of the population explosion preceded the industrial revolution of the 1800s. There is a direct correlation. The more people on the planet, the more advanced we become. The parallel is undeniable.

So how does the increase in population drive the updraft in technology? The answer is simple. Not only are there more people; there are more smart people. When the population doubles, the number of intelligent people also doubles.

In 2005 there were 128 million geniuses (people with IQs in the top 2 percentile.) That’s the equivalent of 64 percent of the entire world population in 1 AD. We live in a world of geniuses. (The rest of us are along for the ride.)

The population explosion produced a swell of intelligence that, in turn, engendered technological advances.Aspergers.lifehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12621931936307980825noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8241505550351823820.post-49848066978896513392007-12-21T10:19:00.000-05:002007-12-21T10:19:00.000-05:00Thanks Don! Ironically, slippery slopes are themselves slippery, but warrant attention.

Amenra, nice point about the slippery slope applied to Europeans!

Thanks to LibertyTreeNews and S_S for the Galton/Chinese application.

Giordan, my smart-aleck answer would begin with "I'm not sure I can take very seriously a commenter who..." Taking your comments at face value, we'd need a much longer discussion. Two things quickly:

I doubt that "extreme poverty" is correlated much with selective abortion. In fact, it's probably much more prevalent in wealthier societies-- and among the relatively wealthy in poorer countries. And beyond economic considerations, the phenomenon seems to be quite (more?) common in arenas where the State and unfortunate religious principles hold sway.

The contemporary portion of the article was connecting current practices that are largely acceptable to a practice that is viewed in historical hindsight as repulsive. One can still be a fan of abortion while noting the irony.Eric Schansberghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16147388189415035752noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8241505550351823820.post-89857178782350354262007-12-21T08:46:00.000-05:002007-12-21T08:46:00.000-05:00I suppose that base on the European predisposition...I suppose that base on the European predisposition to lying, cheating, pillaging and murder then one would have to follow this eugenic logic to its conclusion. And we do know from all the available evidence or data from anthropology and its cousin history that the gains Europeans derived, their wealth and knowledge from other cultures in the above form, then should we not sterilize each and every European. Atavistically these same characteristic could and can reappear in the organism after an absence of several generation. One could for the sake of argument debate the propensity for violence as a genetic flaw due to a recessive trait in all Europeans. If we are indeed looking or defining so called “I.Q.” in terms of lying, cheating, pillaging and murder then we would have to acknowledge George Bush as someone that personify the term of “Moron” and can we use him as a beckon to blanket all Europeans after all he did go some of the best schools this country has. Stephen J Gould wrote a very good book called “ Mismeasure of Man” one should read this book to gleam another perspective on this ugly business of my brain is better than your brain.amenrahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06098214533140539840noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8241505550351823820.post-31446191167895208442007-12-21T01:57:00.000-05:002007-12-21T01:57:00.000-05:00I'm not sure I can take very seriously a writer wh...I'm not sure I can take very seriously a writer who implies that he'd be much happier if the world added tens of millions of unwanted babies every year, especially in countries where many people live in extreme poverty who can hardly feed themselves.Giordanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06899541536241206154noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8241505550351823820.post-22548609360053665572007-12-20T22:59:00.000-05:002007-12-20T22:59:00.000-05:00Regarding Galton's Africa plan, it's apparently be...Regarding Galton's Africa plan, it's apparently being implemented. For example, there are about 100,000 Chinese workers swarming over Angola alone. Meanwhile, of course, the Africans are getting poorer. Interesting was a paper that advocated colonizing Africa with Chinese. His theory seemed to be that the industrious Chinese would replace the native black population.

You may view it here:
http://galton.org/letters/africa-for-chinese/AfricaForTheChinese.htmLibertyTreeNewshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01486090438501743246noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8241505550351823820.post-81029298286152342962007-12-18T20:11:00.000-05:002007-12-18T20:11:00.000-05:00Very interesting piece, Eric, especially as to the...Very interesting piece, Eric, especially as to the whole issue of homosexuality. A "trait" or a "disease"? If "chosen" then where does tampering with the DNA interfere with the concept of free will? I'm not usually a "slippery slope" afficinado (too many folks turning to either the Right or the Left) [there's a book out with that in the title, I think), but this whole thing should make us all look long and hard before stepping onto the slide.
