1st Annual Joe B. and Denny Classic at IUS tonight

From today's C-J...

A preview and overview of the game between IUS and Mid-Continent U. tonight in New Albany. The former is now coached by former Card player, Wiley Brown, and the latter is coached by former Wildcat, Winston Bennett. The combo has brought out their former coaches-- Denny Crum and Joe B. Hall.

There will be an autograph session at 6:30 before the 7:30 game.

Before the game, fans will have a chance to meet Crum and Hall, get autographs and have a professional photo taken with the coaches for $10. All proceeds will help fund athletic scholarships at IUS....

Brown hopes to make the game an annual event and grow it into a tournament that will financially benefit both IUS and Mid-Continent.

Tonight's game will seek to aid an IUS basketball program with an annual budget of $131,000. It is sponsored by Norton Healthcare and Wendy's. But this is primarily possible because more than a month ago Brown went to Crum, who with Hall appears weekdays on the "Joe B. and Denny" morning sports talk show on WKRD-790....

"It's great that the people in New Albany and Louisville that we will try to recruit hot and heavy and the parents will hopefully know that we exist. We're out there."

But the essence of this game is two coaches coming to the aid of their former players.
