how lame is the Democratic Congress?

Over at HoosierAccess, someone blogged yesterday about a Democratic report card, detailing the failures of this Congress.

In terms of fiscal restraint, however, today's news about Bush talking tough about earmarks produces a delicious irony. If he matches the rhetoric with action, then one could argue, simultaneously, that:

1.) the Democratic Congress is lame; and

2.) given the general lack of fiscal restraint among Republican politicians, a Democratic Congress with Republican President Bush is quite an improvement-- over a Republican Congress with Bush!

Unfortunately, Bush's newfound religion does not give voters much additional/credible reason for hope that the Republicans as a group have found a few fiscally conservative bones in their body.
