responding to BlueGrassRoots on reasons to be pro-choice

From BlueGrassRoots, a compilation entitled "Blog for Choice Roundup" and my replies...

Amanda votes pro-choice because she knows women are human.

But she doesn't seem to know that the baby in the pregnant woman's uterus is human...

Ann votes pro-choice because she’s a values voter.

What "values" would ignore science-- ignorance? Or which "values" from her religious commitments would blow past the sanctity of life?

Anna votes pro-choice because her personhood is not conditional.

But the personhood of the baby is conditional to her.

Bean votes pro-choice because we have so far yet to go.

Unfortunately, aborted babies will never start on that journey.

Cara votes pro-choice women’s health is not a “special interest”.

Actually, it is a special interest-- and as is typical-- of those who can exercise political power over those who cannot or will not.

Jessica votes pro-choice because reproductive justice is about more than abortion.

Indeed. But perhaps reproductive justice should start there...

Jill votes pro-choice because she values life.

She values some life over other life. Perhaps she means she's pro-choice on educational vouchers?

Me? I vote pro-choice for lots of reasons, most of which are mentioned in the links above. But also because I am sick of
faux concern for women and faux concern for “unborn children” taking the place of actual concern for women and actual concern for children in the Commonwealth.

I think we have some room for common ground here. I'm equally offended by pro-lifers with a faux concern for women and children. But being pro-life can be easily reconciled with actual concern for women and children-- on the topic of abortion and beyond. So, let's abort the straw man in this argument.
