the real profiteers on oil and gas

The state and federal government make the oil companies look like pikers.

According to the Tax Foundation, from 1977 - 2004, the government received more than twice as much tax revenue as oil companies have earned in profits: $1,343 vs. $643 billion (in 2004 dollars).

Let's enact a windfall profit tax on those revenue-mongers!

Thanks for posting this information. I told co-workers the other day that I surmised this to be the case but had never seen THAT particular narrative spun by our hand-fed Fourth Estate.

Amen!

Or how about a windfall profit tax on all the monopolies and agencies that exist at the bequest of government. When I was 20 years old I worked at a local non-profit quasi government agency. We did low income subsidized housing. I saw first hand the unbelievable inefficiencies in this sector- the quasi government/public/nonprofit sector. They waste taxpayer dollars at an alarming rate.
