Baldwin on Dobson
hat tip: Chuck Muth
"(W)hen it comes to groveling before the GOP, our Christian leaders have no conscience. Hence, James Dobson is now publicly saying he 'might' support McCain."
- Talk-show host and Constitution Party presidential candidate Chuck Baldwin

Dobson sold his soul to the GOP long ago. In the 2004 election cycle, he worked assiduously on the GOP wedge issue du jour, same-sex marriage. If memory serves, that summer Southeast Christian Church hosted a webcast of him and other religious right leaders on this issue, and their bookstore had a pyramid of his little book Marriage Under Fire on display. This of course was to build up support for the ballot measure in Kentucky to ban same-sex marriage, which in the event passed 75% to 25% — and may well have provided the thin margin of victory for Sen. Bunning over his Democratic challenger Mongiardo. Doubtless Dobson is sincere on this issue. But would it really be unfair to suggest his efforts were 75% GOP politics and 25% faith?
By the way, I can't help but saying that Chuck Baldwin can be, well, just a little unhinged. Here's a rather breathtaking example from his website: Thoughts on the Larry Craig Scandal (September 7, 2007). An excerpt: That being said, it behooves me to address the underlying problem behind the Larry Craig scandal. The real problem that this scandal unearths is the widespread influence that homosexuality has within the GOP. Ladies and Gentlemen, the GOP elephant is not red; it is pink. That is a fact that rank and file conservatives within the GOP either don't know or don't want to know. But it is getting harder and harder to keep that fact a secret … If anyone really wants to learn the facts about how homosexualists have taken over the Republican Party, I encourage them to read Alan Stang's blockbuster new book entitled "Not Holier Than Thou,"…
