patriotism and (conservative) evangelicals in America

It occurred to me that the frequent combination of patriotism and conservative evangelical theology and practice in America may be regrettable, but it should be none-too-surprising.

Since America was founded on "Christian principles" (independent of the extent to which those founders were explicitly evangelical or even orthodox in their Christianity), those who are "conservative" will want to return to those roots and will be proud of their country (at least its history).

Moreover, one would not expect this to be duplicated among other populations...
