Hearts warmed as Southeast Christian Church took a significant step toward the opening of its Indiana campus.

A 28-foot-tall cross was placed on the roof of the building's portico at 1309 Charlestown-New Albany Pike on March 3, drawing a crowd of more than 100 people despite the temperature of 18 degrees...

Southeast Christian, which is based in Louisville and has an average weekly attendance of 17,000, plans to begin holding services at the 80,000-square-foot campus on Easter. Rusty Russell, son of former Southeast pastor Bob Russell, will be the campus pastor.

"As a church, we want to lift up Jesus," said Rusty Russell, who helped move the 1,100-pound cross into position. "We lifted up the cross today, so symbolically that's what we did today."...

Southeast Christian also plans to open a regional campus in Oldham County, Ky., in 2010.

...the new campus is welcome because it was hard for the children to get involved at the church's main campus on Blankenbaker Parkway in Louisville. "Weeknight traffic is so unpredictable across the bridges," she said...
