federal tax receipts down-- from recession AND rebate

Here's one of many stories on this from CNN...

Of course, a recession will lower tax revenues.

But so will a $1200 ("recovery") rebate!

The article mentions greater refunds, but fails to connect it to a key public policy.

Amazing...we can't even count the costs of the most famous policy of the new administration.
In addition to the increased debt and the dubious impact on the macro economy, we get the no-duh result that tax revenues will decrease. Hello!

It would have been quite interesting and useful to see the extent to which revenues were deceased by the rebate! C'mon, journalists, go get 'em!
