- Name: Eric Schansberg

First and foremost, I am saved by God's grace as manifested most clearly through the atoning death of Jesus Christ-- and thus, adopted into His family. As a result, I increasingly seek to extend His grace to others in my daily life. On the home front, I am a husband and father to four young men (two by adoption and two the more conventional way). Professionally, I am an economist who loves to teach and is active in public policy circles. Vocationally, I am an active writer and the author of three books (one on the book of Joshua; two on public policy-- one secular, one Christian). Finally, I am the co-author of a 21-month discipleship curriculum, Thoroughly Equipped (and a lighter 36-week version), for developing competent lay-leaders in the Church. The worst president? That would be G. W. Bush.
He's certainly well down into the bottom tier. It's a wonder why Obama replicates so many of his fiscal and military policies...
Of course, it's still too soon to say about Obama, but what a sad, messy start to an historic presidency.
Obama has to follow Bush's military policies because he's afraid of the political consequences of "losing" Iraq or Afghanistan. By one analysis, the reason the Democrats entered into the Vietnam War was because they had to prove their strength against constant Republican claims that they were weak against Communism, that they'd lost China, and so forth. Of course, Obama is alienating his own base while not getting any credit from Republicans for this, but he must reason that a stable Iraq is far better politically speaking than an Iraq that collapses into civil war after an American withdrawal.
The fiscal policies are another matter. But I suspect everything will come out in the wash for Obama, because there are a lot of people who are going to need to buy a car soon (car sales are still well down from there pre-recession rate of 16 million units per year; they're at 11 million now).

--sounds like you just acknowledged the fact that the man is a fake. Wasn't one of his big campaign promises to get us out of these wars? Has he no principles?

Actually, it's quite possible that people are finally wising up and deciding it's smarter to keep driving what they've got instead of trading in every 2 years, or perhaps they are not buying cars because they lost their jobs and have no $$$$$.
Too bad, so sad for any of you who actually believed him. I knew he was a liar all along.
Remember in November.
No, few people need to buy cars (or much of anything else of that expense). If policymakers continue to increase costs, drive up the debt, and increase risk/uncertainty, then it will be a long decade.
I'll post separately (probably tomorrow) with a rating/ranking of post-WWII presidents-- an interesting topic.
Jenna, what I'm going to remember in November is how awful the Republicans were. It will be a long time before I forgive them for the damage they did to this country. And I trust them a lot less than I trust Obama.
