Carter's new book: short part 1; long part 2

From the AP's Tom Raum (hat tip: C-J)...

Former President Jimmy Carter has a new book, White House Diary, which he assembled from diary entries.

In it, he criticizes several presidents, including fellow Democrats Bill Clinton and Barack Obama, for not bringing sufficient pressure on Israel to stop building settlements on the West Bank....The book highlights Carter's difficulties in working with then-House Speaker Thomas P. "Tip" O'Neill, chronicles his failure to get much of his agenda through Congress and expresses the bitterness he felt toward political rival Sen. Edward M. Kennedy. But it also shows his pride in helping to bring peace between Egypt and Israel with the Camp David accords and other foreign-policy and domestic accomplishments....

Why did I bother blogging on this? The editor-chosen title in the C-J: "Carter's new book reviews highs, lows of his presidency". The punch-line? Part 1 is a whole lot shorter than Part 2! (Cue rim shot...)

Carter recently said something that should spur thought as well. "I hope Preseident Obama has a presidency as successful as mine" (Paraphrased)

I wouldn't wish that on my worst enemy-- or my country!

Hopefully, an electoral beating will chasten him and an invigorated GOP will help him govern more effectively. (Unfortunately, I wouldn't bet my ranch on either of those.) Then, we'd end up with a Clinton-- not too bad, given where we've been the last decade.
