oooh...more corporate subsidies!
Now Congress is looking at subsidies for ethanol production based on sugar as well as corn.
More corporate subsidies-- taking money from you and me to give to corporations.
More money to a small set of farmers-- as if our current efforts to redistribute wealth (directly and indirectly) from people of all income classes to mostly wealthy people are not enough.
Another attempt by the government to predict effective energy sources-- an over-reaching estimate of their competence to out-do the market.
Why don't we start by ending the tariff on efficiently-produced sugar-based ethanol from Brazil? As is often the case, this is not so much about the stated goal (here, ending our "dependence on foreign oil") as much as it is lining the pockets of various interest groups.
