that ain’t right...

Matt Murphy is using Sotheby’s/SCP to auction off Barry Bonds home-run #756 on September 15th. (He used EBay to take care of the auction for the hat and ketchup-stained Jose Reyes jersey he wore that night.) Murphy says he’s getting rid of the ball to deal with the tax implications of owning it. Tax analysts debate whether he would be taxed immediately (as he acquired the valuable asset) or not until he sold the ball (revealing its true market value). In any case, tax laws and uncertainty about them again causes an unfortunate outcome.
