environmental irony

From FWN, the ironic observation that a (inside) smoking ban could lead to a "larger carbon footprint".

The smoking ban has increased Fort Wayne’s carbon footprint, since most bars have built smoking patios with propane and gas-fired patio heaters.

In the United Kingdom it’s estimated that the country-wide smoking ban has increased emissions by 260,000 tons.

Sounds legit. But do cigarettes cause pollution, ozone depletion, global warming, etc.?
