"wedge issues"

Replicating part of a comment I made on another post...

I suspect the term "wedge issue" (whatever it means and however selectively it's applied) has probably reached its pinnacle in this election cycle. The Religious Right (RR) and/or the GOP will probably soften their approach. And it's easy for the RR/GOP to look wedge-like when they ran an essentially negative (anti-Obama) campaign against a "hope"-filled candidate.
