C-J letter-writer does math on TARC study

A great letter in the C-J from Tod Hulsman who thankfully does some of the homework someone at the C-J should have done...

And then he delivers it with style: if you think losing $100-150K is bad, just wait until you see what we'll lose if we get what we want!

Thanks Tod!

I am impressed by the Transit Authority of River City's decision to spend $150,000 to study a rail link with Fort Knox. According to TARC's own Web site, only one-third of this money comes from fares; the other $100,000 will come from the city's occupational tax.

Of course, this will be a small price to pay if we can emulate the success of the Nashville Music City Star. According to the numbers provided, up to 1,000 riders paying $5 each way on the 260 workdays of the year will generate $2.6 million, and the system only costs $4.8 million to operate.

As you continue to advocate for any type of public rail project, you could at least do the math for your readers.
