but would either pair really trade?

Of course, those in Heaven would not trade. Whether those in Hell would trade is less clear. I would guess that "majority opinion" (such as it is) would say yes. But there are biblical reasons to believe that's not the case. If sin is marked by blindness and a "voluntary bondage", it may be the case that the same would continue in Hell-- or even be extended.

In The Great Divorce, C.S. Lewis paints a picture of Hell as self-selection: those who don't want to be with God or His people are granted the dignity of their choice. If Lewis is correct, that choice may merely be extended for eternity.

In any case, the question we all face is whether to embrace the grace of God-- or whether to ignore God or to try to earn God's love. Or putting it another for a subset of the latter two groups: if you don't want to spend time with God and His people now, why would you want to do it for eternity?
