economic troubles, the Sears catalog, and drug legalization
Two more nuggets from Daniel Williams' talk this weekend:
Before the Harrison Act of 1914, one could acquire cocaine and other currently-illicit drugs from the Sears & Roebuck catalog.
Economic troubles during the Great Depression were at least in part responsible for the end of Prohibition I. Impending or future macro-economic troubles-- associated with the recent banking crisis or future troubles with debt or currency-- would promote legalization as a more viable option.
