TARC running on fumes (cont'd)

From Sheldon Shafer in the C-J...

A predicted $2.2 million budget shortfall next year is forcing Louisville’s public bus system to consider another 25-cent fare increase, a 5 percent reduction in service or a combination of both to make up for declining tax revenue, officials said today.

Are they aware that a fare increase could hurt revenues?

But that could be averted at least for the next fiscal year if $1.8 million in redirected federal stimulus funds is authorized by Congress this month, said Barry Barker, director of the Transit Authority of River City, during a board of directors meeting.

Ohhh, goodie! If we take money from people in North Caroliina, they can pay for our inefficient bus system.
