But that's what the Dems are doing with their health care "reform" proposals to the solid elderly voting bloc.

If you're not going to...
increase the deficit/debt
OR
increase taxes dramatically on the middle class

And you're planning to...
extend health care insurance and coverage to millions of people

Then...
you're going to increase health care rationing-- almost certainly focusing those efforts on other current govt health care programs, in particular over relatively expensive end-of-life care and a utilitarian outlook that will downgrade grandma's value to society.

The Dems can get away with quite a bit here-- since many of the elderly are tucked nicely into the Dems' pockets (see also: African-Americans and for the GOP, most types of conservatives). But there are limits. And if you're messing with Grandpa's health care, don't be surprised if the old guy gets fired up and goes upside your head-- or at least doesn't vote for you next time.
