two observations on the health care debate

1.) Watching the smattering of commercials I see on TV (mostly while working out at the Y): it's interesting to see the dueling commercials, mostly from Democratic interest groups whose members don't want their ox gored by health care reform.

In any case, it's funny that they'll be blowing so much of their money on in-fighting, probably on a reform that won't ultimately move us very far.

2.) This probably goes under the crazy thought category. But if you put it there, then you have to admit that the Dems were really stupid strategically.

Here it is: Maybe the Democrats wanted a huge stimulus bill so that a huge health care bill would be prohibitively painful.

If they didn't connect the dots, then they were remarkably short-sighted. If they did connect the dots, it may turn out to be a good to brilliant move: working hard on health care (and looking the part), but ultimately knowing they probably wouldn't get much done.
