help the environment; quit having kids

From Joseph Bottum in First Things...

He quotes New York Times’ environmental reporter Andrew Revkin:

“Probably the single-most concrete and substantive thing an American...could do to lower our carbon footprint is not turning off the lights or driving a Prius, it’s having fewer kids...should you get credit—if we’re going to become carbon-centric—for having a one-child family when you could have had two or three?"

This is based on all sorts of nonsensical notions and would lead to all sorts of statist shenanigans. Moreover, it would be amazing if Revkin followed this out to its logical conclusion-- taxing and subsidizing all sorts of personal behavior.
