Jasper debate canceled: good news for Hankins and a good move (at least short-term) for Young and/or Sodrel
The March 18th debate in Jasper has been canceled.
Why?
Travis Hankins is on the record as being willing to debate anytime, anywhere, anyhow.
Todd Young challenged Mike Sodrel to multiple debates in January. Sodrel seemed to accept and promoted "open debate" in his promotional tour. But as is annoyingly common in such matters, the "negotiations" often break down and little/nothing is accomplished-- an apt analogy to Congress in general! This is an embarrassment within the Republican Party. In any case, if you want more of the same in Washington DC, you have two candidates from which to choose!
Sodrel hopes that his name recognition will trump his substantial baggage (from name recognition and his mediocre voting record). In any case, debates don't help him. So, his best strategy is to avoid debates and hope that he can coast to a victory in May's primary.
Young would probably like to debate Sodrel, but has to worry about getting overshadowed by Hankins. (UPDATE: On net, Young surely wants to debate Sodrel-- for the exposure, yes?)
This is good news for Hankins in that it shows that Sodrel and/or Young don't want to be on the same stage with him. A wise move for them-- unless they get pinned with the cowardice.
Hankins would love to debate, since he would probably smoke the competition. So, if you want someone who will be principled, eloquent, and willing to run a grass-roots campaign-- or if you want someone who is a fiscal conservative and a vocal social conservative-- then you have only one choice in this race!
1 Comments:
Travis Hankins agreed to any and all format stipulations. He was very eager to debate.
Travis feels strongly that his views are consistent with the GOP electorate and completely different from his GOP opponents.
Take health care for example: Travis believes his views are very different from his opponents' views
and a debate would clarify things for all.
Travis is willing to debate anywhere any time with any format but don't expect a debate to actually happen. Expect other campaigns to also pull out of the rest of the debates.
