Obama stands up to teachers' unions!

This is not a national public policy issue, but using the bully pulpit to beat up on bullies is still, on net, quite a good thing!

From Michael Fletcher and Nick Anderson in the WaPo...

President Obama voiced support Monday for the mass firings of educators at a failing Rhode Island school, drawing an immediate rebuke from teachers union officials whose members have chafed at some of his education policies....

"If a school continues to fail its students year after year after year, if it doesn't show signs of improvement, then there's got to be a sense of accountability," he said. "And that's what happened in Rhode Island last week at a chronically troubled school, when just 7 percent of 11th-graders passed state math tests -- 7 percent."...

Like blaming Christians for burning Rome?

Some teachers' hands are tied by union pressure, No Child Left Behind nonsense, and an agenda that gives endoctrination presidence over education.

My guess is the mass firing will be a witch hunt -- the anti-unionists being the witches.

Great point...it's not teachers per se, it's the union. Beyond that, there are immense social problems that unravel the quality of schools too.
