Do you think it's an accurate report? There's an awful lot riding on that Officer's testimony as to his actions - and the actions themselves are somewhat - ambiguous.

I don't know the man, so I can't say that it's not true, but if I were on a Jury to decide that I think I'd want a lot more than some hand waving and foot tapping.

But why plead guilty? If he was innocent, it's remarkably bad judgment.

That may be true - but then - the number of politicians with good judgement isn't all that high or we'd be a lot better off. ;-)

Again, I don't know what the truth is. I know next to nothing about the man other than that he has apparently been an outspoken opponent of same-sex marriage/etc and is the target of some homosexual activist groups.

Since most of the claims of the officer haven't been countered by Craig I think we can assume he wasn't targeted or anything. He admits to doing what the officer claims it seems - just not the intent.

I'm not sure why he plead guilty - though I can believe that he might've thought since it was only a misdemeanor he might be able to just make it go away. That it'd draw less attention than a trial.

Or - he could be guilty. :-)

(Of course, even if he *is* guilty, I'm not sure I agree that any sort of crime was committed here. I think if I was on that Jury I'd have to vote to acquit regardless because I think the specific actions in play here really fail to meet the standard of 'crime' in my book.)

sheesh.

Craig appears to be an example of what public health authorities refer to as an MSM (a Man who has Sex with Men). This term was coined as a politically neutral term for homosexual or gay, but also because many MSM's do not self-identify as gay. In fact, many of them are married, as is Craig. This confounds efforts by epidemiologists to accurately estimate the fraction of the male population is gay (an important task for studying the epidemiology of sexually-transmitted diseases). This is also something to consider when debating gay marriage or whether men can change (can become "ex-gays").

I hadn't heard about the MSM label. In any case, it's a great point-- and one that underlies the identity and choice aspects of homosexual conduct.
