Rick Ankiel: a good sports story in a rough summer for sports

Intially heralded as "the next great thing" as a pitcher, Ankiel got off to a good start with the St. Louis Cardinals, before brutally imploding as a 21-year-old in a playoff series. Never able to get his head and arm together after that, he eventually returned to the minors to reinvent himself as an outfielder with the Cardinals. In his first game back to the bigs last night, he hit a three-run homer to help win the game for the Cards.
