partisan baseball hearings?

Was anyone else surprised that the Congressional hearings on baseball and steroids divided along partisan lines?

Perhaps it was just partisanship for its own sake, but assuming not...

If they were going to divide along partisan lines, is that the way you would have expected it to go-- with Republicans in support of Clemens and Democrats in support of McNamee?

I haven't thought about this for very long. But if they were going to divide, I would have expected it to go the other way for a few reasons-- for example, given...

-GOP's approach to the drug war
-Dem's greater emphasis on innocent until proven guilty
-GOP interest in perjury, rule of law, etc.
