C.S. Lewis quote of the week

“No man knows how bad he is till he has tried very hard to be good…Only those who try to resist temptation know how strong it is...A man who gives in to temptation after five minutes simply does not know what it would have been like an hour later. That is why bad people, in one sense, know very little about badness. They have lived a sheltered life by always giving in. We never find out the strength of the evil impulse inside us until we try to fight it..."

--Mere Christianity, book 3, ch. 11

I love that quote! I remember a friend of mine using the opposite line of argument with me one time-- and then I got to break out Lewis' observation. Good stuff!

Great quote and how true. Those who are entangled in sin don't realize its power or the evil it represents. Those who are fighting it see the corruption within themselves. Contrast this with Phil: I can do all things through Christ who strengthened me and Hebrews: let us throw off all that hinders us and the sin that entangles us and fix our eyes our Jesus Christ, the author and perfector of our faith. By memory- excuse any errors.
