wouldn't it be awful/offal...I mean, great...if...

Texas stayed ahead of Florida in the BCS rankings (to be announced this afternoon)?

It's possible-- or perhaps probable-- if they don't rig it.

Texas was ahead of Florida-- who struggled to beat a reasonably strong team (but a team that was not #1 according to the computers). Meanwhile, Oklahoma pummeled a decent Missouri team-- and Texas beat Oklahoma by 10 points earlier this year on a neutral field.

Of course, the answer to all of this is a playoff.

Imagine this:

Texas v. Florida in one semi-final; Oklahoma v. USC in the other. Maybe Okie and TX are the two strongest teams.

The current system makes every game a playoff game, increasing the excitement level throughout the whole season. But I agree with you and Barack Obama that a playoff system in college football would be a good idea.

The BCS has so much money involved and clout with the conferences as referenced by

Teh college football season is the absolutely dumbest set up one could imagine. Texas Tech may play Ole Miss instead of Boise State, who both deserve a BCS game. Texas Tech, Texas and Oklahoma all have the same records and all split in one way or another with each other. Sure Oklahoma beat Cincy but Texas Tech played the tougher conference schedule and I believe Texas is the best of the 3.

I wrote about all the pitfalls of the BCS last year. http://bryceraley.com/2008/01/bcs-college-bowl-system/
