Daeschner for Clark Co.'s govt schools...why?

Why is Daeschner so attractive? Based on what he did with Jefferson County Public Schools-- such as it was-- or because he is a familiar name from a much larger school system?

My primary memory of Daeschner was me messing with him at a panel discussion on education-- when he was messing with a nun.

Aside from whether Daeschner is the best candidate, the article by Ben Zion Hershberg in the C-J has some funny moments.

The Greater Clark County school board plans to introduce former Jefferson County (Ky.) Public Schools Superintendent Stephen Daeschner as the finalist for the system's superintendent next week.

At tonight's board meeting, Vice President Robbie Valentine said members had interviewed several candidates on Monday, "and we have chosen one" to meet the public.

Valentine didn't use Daeschner's name tonight. But this morning, when Daeschner met with about 20 business and community leaders at Jeffersonville City Hall, Valentine and school board member Missy DeArk told the group that Daeschner was the finalist. That meeting was attended by a Courier-Journal reporter....

DeArk said tonight that the finalist can't be named publicly yet because that person must inform the current employer.

What's the difference between publicly in those two paragraphs?

In the meeting with business and community leaders this morning, Daeschner vowed that he will help improve the average student ACT score of about 17 — which he called "ridiculous" — to a more acceptable 20 in two or three years. A score of 20 will help students get into college, Daeschner said.

Uhh...how are you going to do that?
