murder and mayhem at the Holocaust Museum

A tragic event-- both in terms of what transpired and trying to imagine what led to it.

In recent weeks, the murder of Tiller and the security guard at the Holocaust Museum have been blamed on "right-wingers".

Why isn't the HM killer laid at the feet of "left-wingers" who have said inflammatory things contra Jews and Israel-- e.g., Jesse Jackson (back in the day), Louis Farakkhan, and Rev. Wright.

In any case, the "left-wing vs. right-wing" doesn't takes one very far. Why do people use such simplistic labels?

To note, I’m not sure how to compare the religious and political views of the killers of Tiller vs. the Holocaust museum, but they would seem too different to be part of a single wing.

Of course, the “left-wing” has its share of violence examples: ALF for animal rights, ELF on environmental issues, ACT UP on homosexual activism (mostly back in the day), and a wide array of labor union activities come to mind.

In principle, it'd be nice if people would moderate those on the fringe of their efforts. But it’s difficult in practice and I’m not sure “the left” is any better at it. One of the practical difficulties: it “sells papers” and helps people make cheap rhetorical points. And so it goes…

UPDATE: Here's a nice piece by Jonah Goldberg at Jewish World Review on why he was neither right nor left.
