Democrats improve over Republicans on earmarks
It's still a long way from ideal, but the Democrats actually made improvements in earmarks when they controlled Congress. I've been critical of the Democrats in terms of their profligate spending and earmarks-- and still am-- but I have to give appropriate credit when such credit is due.
In this week's World, they note that the Democrats passed more earmarks (11,043 in 2008 vs. 9,963 in 2006), but theirs cost less money than the Republicans ($14.1 billion vs. $29 billion).
