perhaps the 2nd most important election in 2008

The narrow re-election of Mitch McConnell to a fifth term in the Senate.

Some conservatives think this bodes poorly for their future-- at least if he's chosen to be the minority leader again.

McConnell certainly represents a dog's breakfast of views. But by all accounts, he is an able Washington insider.

The trade-off: do you want more of the same from Republicans in DC &/or do you want McConnell's political abilities keeping the Republicans in line to deal with what is to come?

It also begs the question: if McConnell had not been re-elected, what would Republican leadership in the Senate looked like and how effective would it have been?
