MJ's originality

I caught a few minutes of Rush yesterday. And he was enjoying some MSNBC commentators who had taken some of his comments about Michael Jackson too seriously. (He had remarked that Jackson "flourished under Reagan years, languished under Clinton and Bush, and died under Obama".) He did pretty well under Carter too!

Then, making a more serious point, he pointed to MJ's originality and individuality-- and observed that no over "covers" his songs. He was unique and too difficult to emulate or even, to follow in his footsteps. Rush noted that even the Beatles get covered.

A cool observation from the King of Talk Radio about the King of Pop.

One counterexample of a sort: David Cook's amazing re-make of Billie Jean for American Idol two seasons ago. Then again, maybe this proves the point-- since the re-make is SO different from the original.
